Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-30.
What a great place to start–right where you are with these great words of encouragement from Jesus who says, “Come to me and learn from me.” No matter what age and stage of your life, whether we have deep regrets or great hope and momentum going into the New Year, these words from Jesus resonate in a powerful way.
Going into 2019 I am desperate to come and learn from Jesus. 2018 has left me weary and in need of rest.
Two weeks ago I came upon the following verse and began to memorize it. My desperate heart came alive with hope. It has become a living meditation for me. Countless times each day I soak in and meditate deeply on the raw words of the writer.
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in You. Psalm 143:8-9
Over the holidays I have reflected on it so often my heart is beginning to beat to the rhythm of God’s word. The truth is I am desperate. I am desperate for God to bring me hope; to be reminded countless times each day of His unfailing love for me as I am not as I should be. I need Him to bring me awareness of what is true for I have put my complete allegiance on Him; my total dependence on His sustained initiative in helping me. Not just partial dependence–but total.
And so, as we begin 2019, I hope you begin where you are in this unreserved dependence on His moment to moment Presence.
