There is a man whose delight is in following Jesus’ way. He soaks in truth, growing more and more God-like one day at a time. Psalm 1:2 BLT [1]

There was a season in which almost every time I turned around I got the sense God was trying to get my attention. I was preoccupied with getting things done, keeping up the pace, or hiding out. I might pause and feel guilty for a minute, jot a well intended something in my journal, or shoot up a prayer in between phone calls.

Winter

Mostly in that season–I’ll call it winter, I just kept driving down the road.  I see God along-side the road as a hitchhiker. I pass…with fleeting eye-contact.

Perhaps

Perhaps you too are a follower of Jesus, who, like me, reading Psalm 1, would not consider yourself a verse 2 kind of man. You may think a verse 2 guy is a special kind of holy man or that it’s an Everyman thing for those who get around to it.

Perhaps you have been an Everyman and it’s gotten rote, lifeless, dry-duty and you’re about to give it up.

Well, it is an Everyman thing for those who sign up to follow Jesus.  It’s like a gym membership you have to exercise or a winning lottery ticket that you have to claim to receive.  Trouble is you never get around to it.

Ease up on the gas

Let me remind you.  God isn’t mad at you.  He sees you coming down that long road hoping this time you will pick up the ancient hitchhiker.  He wants to help you turn your winter into spring. Not for His benefit–but yours.

Ease up on the gas, begin where you are, become what you believe.

Spend unhurried time with Him – there is no other way.

There is no other way – spend unhurried time with Him.

“How to spend unhurried time with God?”  Slow down, pull over, invite Him in and ask Him to show you how.

Prayer of the week

Help me spend unhurried time with You! I have seen you beside the road so many times God but I’ve not pulled over. I see you there now. I don’t know how to do this and keep it all together.  Rescue me. I can’t rescue myself. I’m weary of winter and longing for spring. Break through in me Jesus! Amen
