Keep your eyes straight ahead, ignore all side-show distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Proverbs 4:25-26 MSG
Your sustained focus and God’s sustained Presence can take you anywhere.
Jesse Lauder, is a great friend and one of my ministry partners. He owns Focus Hardwood. I asked Jesse what focus looks like to him as a business owner, family man, and leader. He said “It’s about devoting full attention, concentration, and energy on one person, task, or activity.”
How can we stay on track with focus with so many distractions, rabbit trails, and options?
To begin with focus means we must step out with a simple process such as:
- Create clarity — define precisely what you want.
- Take action — actions you believe will move you forward.
- Keep on track — are your actions moving you closer to what you want?
Reflecting on this simple process I jotted the following in my journal
- Ask myself “What is most important?” and write it down.
- Start the day working on what is most important and stay with it until it is finished.
- Refuse to follow rabbit trails.
- When I become aware I am off track simply reFOCUS.
- I will focus on truth when everything inside screams for me to compromise.
- Remember, “I live in a war zone. Do not be naive for the enemy wants me to chase rabbit trails.” 1 Peter 5:8-9
- Focus on micro-steps.
- Focus on pace.
- Focus on the reward or payoff.
- If I live like no one else, I can live like no one else. [Thank you Dave Ramsey!]
Get clear about what you want, take action that will move you closer, stay on track. Repeat.
