Chasing the Sage by Bud Lamb

Chasing the Sage

What men want: Finding purpose and passion at every stage in life

Jesus asked a large crowd of people, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?”

Like many, I have grown up influenced by my family, the origin, the pulse of the media, and from the message of the world that more is better. I have chased it with reckless abandon, and along the way, I’ve mortgaged my soul.

Every so often, Jesus’ words have caused me to pause and consider another direction.  I call this “navigating by resistance.” That’s how I seem to move through the years. I move in a direction until I run into something, then I adjust and go onward again. Painful. Simple.

Like the sage Solomon, who wrote Proverbs of wisdom, I fall seven times and get up eight. Proverbs 24:16.

What I have learned in a lifetime of falling and getting up and from the wisdom from many wise men who have spoken into my life, is that there are three primary movements in the heart of men, if navigated well, will allow us to rediscover our heart.

Chasing the Sage offers a way to restore the passion, fuel up, and finish strong.

About Bud Lamb

My wife, Lea Ann, and I live in Corralitos, California. Both of our kids are out of the house. My daughter Mandi, and her husband, Bryce, still live close to us. My son Frank and his bride-to-be Jess, and our granddaughter Maya currently live in Los Angeles, CA.

I’ve been an ordained pastor [to the surprise of many!] for coming on 20 years. Currently, I am a pastor to men and younger pastors through InFaith.org. I work one on one, write, and lead high adventure retreats in a way similar to that of Jesus, Paul, and a long line of men who practice the lost art of the handcrafting of disciples in partnership with God.

As for education, I have no degrees. I am a life-long learner, a voracious reader, and a mentor who has learned not to hide my humanity. So you can say that my credentials can be found in all of the men who have invited me into their lives and those who have been open to the message of Jesus.

For fun, I run, hike, and kayak in the high country of the California Sierra’s, the Oregon Cascades, the Flat Tops of Colorado, and the Big Horn of Wyoming.

What drives my passion and purpose is to know and enjoy God, to love as Jesus does, and to inspire others to the same.

The Power of Authentic

The Big Idea: I’m not going to attempt to motivate you to pray every day because I trust that you do.  What I do want to do is to inspire you to be more authentic, more conversational, and more intimate with God about what concerns you. Do not be anxious about...

Love Is A Verb

Today’s Big Idea:  Love moves us.  We can move others.  Love is a choice that creates movement and over time, momentum. We love because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19 NIV Paul writes that “Christ's love has moved me to such extremes.” 2 Corinthians 5:14 MSG...
